Culturally Centered and Responsive Tutoring

At Sankofa Ed we are a diverse team of special educators, advocates, and educational professionals who are passionate about teaching and cultivating joy in learning spaces inside and outside the classroom. We understand the importance of representation in learning and are proud to offer a tutoring experience that is culturally affirming for both students and families.

What is a Sankofa Ed Educational Coach?

A Sankofa Ed Educational Coach is a highly specialized and qualified teaching professional with a minimum of 5 years of professional teaching experience and an extensive background in providing culturally affirming and responsive instruction to diverse students.

Our coaches are skilled in meeting students where they’re at and leveraging their strengths, interests and preferences to engage learners of all ability levels with new content or with reinforcing previous concepts. Our goal is to provide learners with strategies and skills they can apply independently at school, home, or in a professional setting.

How do you align students with coaches?

At Sankofa Ed we match potential families with coaches using the following criteria:

  • Academic Expertise and Experience- Does the coach have extensive knowledge and experience teaching the subject your child needs support in?
  • Availability and Location- Does the coach’s schedule and availability align with your family’s schedule? Do you live within the coach’s service area?
  • Student Comfortability and Preference- We highly prioritize student safety and comfortability and encourage families to participate in an in-person or virtual meet and greet with their potential coach prior to the first paid session. This allows for students to meet their potential coach and determine if they would like to proceed with the coach or match with a different coach prior to their first paid session.
