Non-Attorney Special Education Advocate specializing in Trauma-Informed & Culturally Affirming IEP Development
My name is Christina, and I am honored to walk alongside families as a trusted ally and advocate on their educational journeys.
I am a third-generation Black educator in Denver, carrying forward nearly 50 years of collective service to Denver Public Schools through my grandfather, mother, and myself. Growing up in Park Hill, Montbello, and Green Valley Ranch, I place special emphasis on supporting families in these communities that shaped me.
With 14 years of experience in education, I have served as a Special Education and Gifted Education teacher, instructional coach, and consultant. I hold a Colorado Professional Teaching License in Secondary English, Elementary Education, and Special Education (ages 5–21). I am also Orton-Gillingham trained and bring expertise in coaching teachers around culturally responsive practices, inclusive differentiation, and equity in special education.
Over the course of my career, I have written and reviewed hundreds of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and special education evaluations, while also mentoring educators to design affirming, strengths-based learning plans for students. I specialize in drafting IEPs through a trauma-informed lens that is culturally affirming and centers both student and parent dignity.
In my advocacy work I center a practice called community-rooted data justice, a practice that ensures data is not used to pathologize or penalize students, but instead to honor their stories, highlight systemic inequities, and build collective power for change. This approach informs all of my work, helping families and communities reclaim their narratives and push for equity at every level of education.
At the heart of Sankofa Ed is the commitment to healing educational trauma through advocacy and repairing harm caused by historically exclusionary and exploitative systems while drawing strength from the lessons, resilience, and dreams of those who came before us. Guided by this lineage, my work invites families and schools to not only address immediate barriers, but to build toward liberatory futures where every child can thrive.
This commitment is reflected in our name, Sankofa, a word from the Akan people of Ghana meaning “go back and fetch it.” It teaches us that we must return to the wisdom of our past in order to move forward. At Sankofa Ed, this principle grounds our advocacy: honoring the voices and struggles of our ancestors while reimagining education in ways that affirm joy, dignity, and brilliance for generations to come.
As both an educator and a parent, I know how deeply families want to see their children’s joy, dignity, and brilliance reflected in their education. I am grateful for every opportunity to advocate alongside families, build meaningful partnerships with schools, and disrupt systems that have historically excluded students and families of color. At Sankofa Educational Consulting and Advocacy, I am dedicated to helping families and schools work together to create equitable outcomes and thriving futures.
